History

The Orchard O's were created in 2008 after the creation of OHHA and consisted of a roster that resembles about 50% of todays roster (Young, Large, Langley). The rest of the roster included historic names like Mike Bushuk who left the organization abruptly when he stormed out claiming he did not get enough playing time. The head coaches of the 2008/2009 O's were Nic Arbour and Spencer Finney who have now joined the playing squad for the current season. Perhaps the most respected O's player of all time was Trevor Clark who put up record points and broke virtually every offensive stat category for a single season. He guided the O's to the first ever OHHA championship and was the difference maker when the O's won the all-TCS ball hockey tournament that same year. His contract ended after the 2008/2009 season and the O's decided to sign multiple other players to increase the depth of the squad rather than signing Clark and having only one star player. He was asking too much and the O's organization was unable to meet his request due to the salary cap. He was signed by Brent House instead and has not played in an OHHA game since. This important decision to let Trevor Clark go enabled the O's to sign up and coming stars like Ade Ojo and Spencer Irish who made the Major League team in their first season, putting up amazing numbers at the same time. The organization was also able to sign defenseman James Wagstaff who played in three OHHA preseason games but regrettably, he left the team before the regular season started.

The 2009 draft was a sweepstakes for the O's as they claimed high caliber young players like Cam Pollard, Drew Rider and Emerson Verrier who are considered the future of the organization. It was extremely hard to say goodbye to Clark, but the O's are looking strong this season to claim the second championship in a row. It is impossible to say that the O's have such an easy time defeating the HO's as they did in the first season; however, this is not all due to the loss of Clark, in fact the competitivness of the league as increased exponentially as the HO's also signed numerous star players (see HO's page for details).
